Actio Recruitment is delighted to be supporting our electronics manufacturing client in Hertfordshire with their search for a Business Development Manager. This is a pivotal role in driving the companys commercial growth, requiring strong technical knowledge and proven sales experience ideally within the Aerospace, Defence, Scientific Instrument, or Lab Equipment sectors.

About the Role

As the Business Development Manager, you will report to the Sales and Marketing Director, working closely with senior leadership, engineering, and production teams to expand our clients market share and revenue. You will be responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing partnerships, and selling sub-contract electronic manufacturing services to high-value Tier 1 and Tier 2 customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans to win new business in target markets
  • Identify and engage new business opportunities, building long-term customer relationships
  • Sell contract manufacturing solutions, leveraging technical expertise to understand customer needs
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, production, and senior management) to ensure seamless project execution
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity, providing insights to support business strategy
  • Negotiate and close high-value contracts, ensuring profitable and sustainable partnerships
  • Represent the company at industry events and trade shows to enhance brand presence

What Were Looking For

  • Proven track record in business development or strategic sales within the electronics manufacturing industry
  • Experience in selling sub-contract electronic manufacturing services (low/medium volume production)
  • Strong understanding of the Aerospace, Defence, Scientific Instrument, and Lab Equipment sectors is an advantage
  • Technical background in electronics engineering (degree preferred) or equivalent industry experience
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • A proactive, results-driven approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in marketing and market analysis would be a strong advantage
