Our client, a small but rapidly expanding engineering firm based in Stockport, is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic Administrator to undertake a busy and varied role combining general office duties and accounts/finance support.
It’s an ideal opportunity for an ambitious team player who wants to take on more responsibility, learn new skills and develop into an Office Manager or Senior Finance role as the business grows.
Job Description
Working alongside the Operations Director and Finance Manager, your day-to-day duties will include:
- Answering incoming calls and acting as the first point of contact of clients, suppliers, contractors and visitors
- Undertaking accounts administration and general book-keeping duties using Xero – including bank reconciliation, payment processing, invoicing, issuing statements, logging timesheets, petty cash and expenses
- Supporting the sales, design and project management teams with administration duties – such as creating and editing tender documents, presentations, quotations, new supplier forms and related reports
- Updating the quality management system and maintaining Excel spreadsheets with progress updates, performance data and project insights
- Assisting with smooth-running of the office on a day-to-day basis, which may include ordering stationery, booking meeting rooms etc.
As a small team, you’ll also need the flexibility to take on additional admin tasks based on business needs.
Person Specification
You’ll ideally have 1-2 years’ experience in an office support, administration role with competency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Any exposure to finance, accounts or book-keeping, as well as knowledge of Xero software, would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided.
However, suitable candidates will need to demonstrate:
- Positive attitude and willingness to get stuck into a range of duties
- Confidence, communication and customer service skills
- An organised, methodical approach with a keen attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and show initiative to find solutions to problems

Working from their Stockport office, your standard hours of work will be Monday-Thursday 9.00am-5.00pm, and 9.00am-4.00pm on Fridays. Your starting salary will be £25-26,000, reviewed annually as your role develops. You’ll also receive a competitive benefits package, free on-site parking and 26 days holiday + bank holidays.
