Westwood Recruitmentare on the lookout for aTechnical Buyerto join our client on a permanent basis in Stockport with an immediate start available. As aTechnical Buyeryou will be reporting into the Commercial Manager. You will be a key point of contact and will carry out requirements that are in accordance with goals and objectives established and directed by the Commercial Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assisting in sourcing RAW material and components
To interrogate complex bills of material and making judgements on purchase
To extract drawings, part reports from engineering drawings and any database information to compile RFQ for Tier 2 supplies and OEM manufacturers
Be working in the purchasing department and have a working knowledge of RAW material specifications
Be able to monitor, facilitate, and operate an efficient and effective purchasing section.
There is a 50/50 split between deciphering requirements from bills of materials and also sourcing activities whilst working in partnership with the sales team in terms of competitive parts pricing
Ensure that there is a continuous supply of efficient services and materials that enable delivery targets to be achieved in a cost-effective and timely manner
Assisting in the purchase of ad-hoc materials as and when required by the production department to help enable delivery requirements to be achieved
Meeting the cost strategy set by the CM that meets and exceeds the needs of the business
Meeting bid turnaround times set by the CM for submission
Submitting technical deviations and quality notifications to the quality department to meet the project deadlines
Continually seeking out potential new suppliers to help satisfy increasing demand
Purchasing sundry items periodically that are required with company policy and budgets
Identifying and achieving the lowest costs without impacting quality and maintaining the cost of materials on the appropriate database within EFACS
Job Requirements
Have a background in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Solid experience of purchasing raw materials, engineered products and services
Have an ability to interpret technical specs and read engineering drawings is essential
Experience within a sub-contract/OEM background is desirable
