The students at the school have a variety of learning needs, including autism spectrum disorder, moderate to severe learning disabilities, communication difficulties, and physical disabilities. The school fosters an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where each student is encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.About the Class: The class you will be working with consists of children with a broad range of needs. These include:
- Children with autism (ranging from high-functioning to more complex needs).
- Students with moderate to severe learning disabilities, requiring a highly differentiated approach to learning.
- Children with speech and language delays, and other communication difficulties.
- Students with physical disabilities, requiring additional support for mobility and physical care.
- Children who may also have behavioural needs, often associated with their SEN.
The class sizes are small, with a high staff-to-student ratio, allowing for personalised teaching and strong one-on-one support. Each child's individual needs are at the forefront of the learning process, and you will be working closely with a dedicated team of teaching assistants to support students both academically and socially. The goal is to create a calm, structured, and engaging environment that caters to the needs of every child, supporting their growth and development in a safe and inclusive setting.Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of students, using a variety of creative and adaptive teaching methods.
- Provide high-quality support to students with SEN, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in all school activities.
- Assess students' progress regularly and adapt teaching methods and resources as necessary to meet their evolving needs.
- Create and maintain a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes emotional, social, and academic development.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students.
- Support students with personal care needs and facilitate their social and emotional well-being.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies to encourage appropriate behaviour and social interaction.
Key Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching children with special educational needs, preferably in a similar setting.
- Experience in primary or secondary education is welcomed, as long as you have a real passion for working with students with SEN.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with staff, students, and families.
- Patience, flexibility, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
Desirable:
- Experience with students with a variety of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and communication delays.
- Additional qualifications or training in SEN, autism, or related areas would be an advantage but are not essential.
