Job Description: Quantity Surveyor – Major Project (Taunton Region)

Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an award-winning Tier 1 building contractor working on a major project in the Taunton region. Reporting to the Lead Quantity Surveyor, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering the commercial success of this prestigious development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Quantity Surveyor in managing the project’s commercial performance.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor cost plans, ensuring cost control and value engineering are effectively implemented.
  • Oversee subcontractor and supplier procurement, including tendering, negotiation, and contract administration.
  • Assess and process valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Provide regular cost and value reporting to the Lead Quantity Surveyor and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Support risk management processes to mitigate project risks and maximize opportunities.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Contribute to the development of junior team members, providing mentorship and guidance as needed.

Requirements

  • Tier 1 experience working on large-scale construction projects is essential.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects with values exceeding £10 million.
  • Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying or a related field (e.g., RICS accredited degree).
  • Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract, including NEC and JCT.
  • Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in cost management software and MS Office applications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and team engagement.
