Assistant Service Manager

We are seeking a dedicated Adult Learning Service Lead to spearhead the development and delivery of priority programs and projects within the Adult Learning Service. This role is crucial in aligning our initiatives with the Wakefield District Economic Strategy to effectively address employment and skills needs. The successful candidate will act as a deputy for the Service Manager when necessary and ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the service through strategic leadership and robust management.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead the development and delivery of priority programs and projects to enhance the Adult Learning Service.
  • Align service initiatives with the Wakefield District Economic Strategy to meet local employment and skills needs.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and develop service specifications to ensure effectiveness and value for money.
  • Oversee quality improvement cycles, manage examinations, and enhance learner support services.
  • Act as a deputy for the Service Manager, providing leadership and direction as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree or professional qualification in the Further Education (FE) sector.
  • Teaching qualification (minimum Level 4).
  • Strong understanding of national, regional, and local policy in FE and Adult Learning.
  • Proven experience in managing funding and performance frameworks in the FE sector.
  • Significant experience in managing employer/stakeholder partnerships and team management.
  • Experience in risk management and managing external inspections, including understanding Ofsted and Funding Agency requirements.

Desirable Skills:

  • ICT qualification at Level 2 or above.
  • Management qualification.
  • Knowledge of public sector policy and developments.
  • Understanding of the commissioning process and project management principles.
