Wakefield Council is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Procurement Category Manager to join the Procurement Team, focusing on the Business Category, which includes ICT, HR, and Finance. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to lead high-volume, high-impact procurement activities, delivering value for money and innovative solutions across essential services.

You’ll play a pivotal role in full end-to-end procurement, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and best value outcomes. Current projects include replacing the Leisure booking system and working on the City Fibre initiative, focusing on procuring a comprehensive Wi-Fi network for the area.

Responsibilities

· Develop and implement category management strategies for the Business Category that align with the Council’s goals

· Lead on high-volume, complex procurements, ensuring compliance with legislation and achieving best value

· Support and deliver strategic projects such as the replacement of leisure booking systems and City Fibre Wi-Fi network procurement

· Drive efficiency and savings across the procurement lifecycle while ensuring sustainable and innovative outcomes

· Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to understand service requirements and provide expert procurement advice

· Collaborate with service teams, who will oversee contract management, to maintain alignment with Council objectives

Requirements:

· Proven experience in end-to-end procurement, in the public sector

· Track record of successfully managing high-value tenders and delivering cost savings

· Comprehensive knowledge of public procurement regulations

· CIPS Level 6 qualification
