Finance Business Partner

Are you a finance professional with public sector experience looking for an exciting opportunity to make an impact? We are recruiting a Finance Business Partner to join our team and provide high-level strategic financial support.



About the Role:

In this role, you will deliver comprehensive financial business partnering services, offering strategic financial advice and technical support. You will play a key role in budgeting, financial control, and the preparation of statutory annual accounts. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Building strong financial management processes and sharing best practices across the organization
  • Providing added-value financial advice to budget holders, managers, and Directors
  • Supporting business cases and options appraisals to drive decision-making and efficiency improvements
  • Ensuring financial control and governance across service delivery
  • Collaborating with senior finance colleagues to provide high-level strategic advice and support corporate initiatives


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial guidance to senior managers and portfolio holders, supporting resource management
  • Contribute to the statutory accounts process and liaise with both internal and external auditors
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate financial risks by developing robust business cases
  • Support service managers in budget setting, monitoring, and forecasting
  • Co-ordinate the preparation and submission of financial reports, including year-end statutory accounts
  • Offer financial advice during scrutiny meetings and portfolio briefings
  • Lead and develop a small team, including Accountancy Officers and Apprentices


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Public Sector Experience: Previous experience in a public sector finance role is essential
  • Qualifications: A member of a CCAB/CIMA body (or studying towards one) and actively engaged in CPD
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial data, identify risks, and provide solutions
  • Communication Skills: Capable of presenting complex financial information to a range of stakeholders, including senior managers and elected members
  • Leadership: Experience in managing or mentoring finance staff, with strong organizational skills to meet deadlines
