Health & Safety Manager

We are currently searching for a Health & Safety Manager to join a highly successful multidisciplined main contractor on a Waste to Energy Scheme. In this role you will be the main point of contact between the client and the main contractor on Health & Safety.

The project hasn’t started yet so you would have the opportunity to get up to speed on the companies’ procedures and get a head start on setting up the project’s paperwork.

The Role:

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive health and safety programs in accordance with UK health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated regulations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Create and maintain incident reporting systems, investigate accidents, and provide recommendations for preventing future occurrences.
  • Design, deliver, and oversee safety training programs for employees at all levels to increase safety awareness and knowledge.
  • Stay up-to-date with UK health and safety standards and ensure staff compliance.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure a prompt and effective response to emergencies.
  • Conduct regular internal audits to assess compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and certification bodies to maintain and renew necessary accreditations, such as ISO 45001.
  • Develop, update, and communicate safety policies and procedures to ensure all employees understand and follow safety guidelines.
  • Investigate and report on all incidents, accidents, and near misses, and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Maintain accurate records of all safety-related activities, incidents, inspections, and training programs.

Required:

  • Construction industry experience is essential. Candidates coming from other industries will not be considered.
  • NEBOSH Construction Diploma is preferred but a General Certificate won’t be overlooked.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulations.
  • Very strong communication skills both written and verbal.
