Experienced Foam Cutter / Band Knife Operator

Location: Ince-in-Makerfield, Wigan WN2 2AG

Salary: £15 - £16 per hour depending on experience

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7am – 5pm, Friday 8am - 4pm

Our client supplies the upholstery trade with foam, they have built up a very regular and loyal customer base.  Since their re-location they have grown from employing 7 members of staff to their current figure of over 40 employees whilst still remaining a close knit team. They have installed a CNC cutting machine, began producing fibre and feather cushions in house and expanded their fleet of vehicles adding new runs as often as they can.

The Role

Due to their continuing expansion they are looking to recruit an experienced foam cutter / band knife operator to help strengthen their experienced team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic company for the right candidate.

The ideal applicant must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in foam cutting on bandknife, experience on CNC machinery could also enhance salary. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual who can grow with the company as they continue to implement their expansion plans.

Applicants will be working in an excellent working environment within modern units, you will be working within a rapidly expanding, long-established and dynamic company, who always invest in the company and their staff. Supplying foam across the UK to upholsterers, manufacturers and the contract market, the company continues to grow year on year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cut foam parts into complete kits using a mixture of templates, drawings & work sheets.
  • Shaping of foam cushions using band knife & other machinery.
  • Work within guidelines / instructions.
  • Responsible for ensuring that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained.
  • Working to deadlines to complete orders on time.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have previous experience in foam cutting.
  • Good numeracy skills are essential along with the ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining high standards.
  • Solid band knife experience is important, you be part of a very busy department and will need to be a team player, but with the ability to use your initiative.
  • Experience of foam cutting machinery & operating a band-saw for foam cutting.
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ideally have a current fork-lift licence & be capable of lifting & moving large foam blocks.
  • Must be able work independently while collaborating in a team environment
  • Required to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
