Sellick Partnership is thrilled to be assisting a Local Authority in Essex with the recruitment for a Senior Lead - Democratic Services, Civic and Elections.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead, co-ordinate, manage and be accountable for two teams, covering democratic services, civic and elections services.

The successful candidate will also be supporting the Director of Law & Governance in governance matters and will act as Monitoring Officer for the Council as and when required.

Responsibilities of the Senior Lead - Democratic Services, Civil and Elections:

  • To lead and manage teams covering democratic services, civic and elections services
  • To ensure that meetings of the Council, Cabinet, Committees and Working Parties and the decision-making process generally operate effectively
  • To contribute to, or lead on, the development of corporate policies and procedures
  • Provide professional support, advice and information to all Members of the Council
  • To work in collaboration with other departments in the preparation, management and introduction of new Members of the Council, including returning Members, and existing Members Act as Deputy Returning Officer
  • To maximise the use of information technology to improve services and processes

Experience required for the Senior Lead - Democratic Services, Civil and Elections role:

  • Knowledge of local government structures and procedures
  • Detailed knowledge of the law and procedures in relation to elections, registration law and committee administration
  • Knowledge and experience of providing advice to councillors and officers on decision making processes, overview and scrutiny and constitutional matters
  • People management
