SEN Specialist for Primary School Role Overview:
As the SEN Specialist, you will play a key role in providing tailored support and interventions to students with a range of SEN, ensuring they receive the appropriate assistance to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Working closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals, you will develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies to meet the unique needs of each student.

SEN Specialist for Primary School Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting assessments and evaluations to identify students' specific learning needs and areas of development.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other staff members to create and implement personalized learning plans and interventions.
  • Providing one-on-one and small group support to students with SEN, both in the classroom and in dedicated SEN provision areas.
  • Monitoring students' progress and adjusting support strategies as needed to ensure ongoing improvement.
  • Liaising with parents/carers to communicate progress, provide support, and address any concerns or questions.
  • Supporting the school's SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) in maintaining accurate records, attending review meetings, and ensuring compliance with SEN legislation and guidelines.
  • Contributing to the development of a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and promotes positive outcomes for all students.

SEN Specialist for Primary School Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in managing behavioral challenges and implementing behavior management strategies.
  • Understanding of social and emotional needs of children with SEN, and ability to provide appropriate support.
  • Experience working with non-verbal children and proficiency in alternative communication methods.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
  • Specialization or additional training in SEN, such as a SENCO qualification or relevant postgraduate certificate.
  • Strong understanding of SEN legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of SEN.
