I am currently representing Wokingham Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a ratewhich is negotiable dependent upon experience

We are looking for a Homelessness Prevention Officer this role will be: RG401WH

The right candidate will:

Wokingham Borough Council is looking for an experienced Homelessness Prevention Officer to join our Homelessness Team on a interim basis; the post holder will hold an active case load of Prevention and Relief Duty cases, and the post holder will also be required to make full inquiries and main duty decisions.

  • The post-holder will be responsible for proactively delivering housing options advice, including security of tenure, low-cost home ownership, preventing homelessness, investigating householder circumstances and undertaking statutory assessments in order to determine the best options and resources available on a case-by-case basis.
  • This will involve carrying and managing a case load across housing options, move-on and homeless prevention, to work with individuals supporting and directing clients to access a broad range of housing options and where appropriate making relevant onward referrals and signpost to other services. The post holder will ensure statutory requirements are met and local team targets are delivered through case work.
  • Candidate will be expected to be part of the Housing Options duty Service, completing assessment, and carrying out respective prevention and relief work.
  • Managing a varied caseload Knowledge of Part VII Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act and other relevant legislation and statute is required along with experience of carrying out homelessness enquires, casework and drafting s184 decision letters.

We require the following:

  • Experience of working in a front facing team interviewing and assessing clients with a need for assistance.
  • Experience of case work and the application of case work management systems
  • Have an excellent working knowledge (or demonstrate the ability to have or acquire) of all elements of housing needs: housing advice, homelessness prevention, property allocation and choice-based lettings.
