A leading manufacturing powerhouse is looking for a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join their growing team, in the Wolverhampton area;

The role will begin on days (early Friday finish) but may move onto rotating shifts. Rates shown are umbrella pay rates from day rate to shifts late rate.

Travelling contractors, who will be living locally during the week, can receive a £5.00 per hour premium to be paid as travel and subsistence expenses, on all standard hours. This is included within the upper pay band illustration.

Regular overtime available, paid at enhanced rates.

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Technician will perform materials and metallographic analysis. Reporting to the Special Process Manager, the Laboratory Technician will form part of the Quality team. The role will involve preparation, testing and analysis of welded and brazed joints.

Responsibilities:

Prepare welded and brazed components using metallographic analysis techniques (Hot / cold mount, polish and etch processes)
Analyse metallographic samples using digital microscopes for dimensional conformance and highlight visual non-conformances
Prepare and test welded and brazed components using Tensile test equipment
Create certification reports on templates based on the tests perform
Support failure analysis by using metallographic techniques to identify failure sites and failure modes
Maintain the laboratory area including control of consumables and equipment

Previous experience in a laboratory environment is essential
Previous metallurgical experience is essential
Candidate must have excellent verbal and written skills
Has the ability to work across various departmental functions within the Company

This position will involve access to export-controlled information and hardware where an export license would be required for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Employment will be subject to satisfactory security checks, export license approval, and if required, completion of a non-disclosure agreement.
