Plant Accountant - Manufacturing | Cumbria | 4-Day Work Week

A highly regarded global manufacturing company is seeking to appoint a Manufacturing Accountant at its Workington site. This is a full-time, permanent role, created as part of succession planning for an upcoming retirement after 15 years of service.

This is a unique opportunity to join a thriving business that operates an attractive 4-day working week (Monday - Thursday), with hybrid flexibility for one of those days.

The Role

This position is pivotal in supporting management, cost, and operational accounting, as well as playing an integral role in an upcoming ERP implementation project. Collaborating with colleagues across multiple sites and international teams, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced accountant who thrives in a dynamic, hands-on manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities include:? ERP Implementation - Actively contributing to the system rollout, process documentation, end-user testing, and training.? Financial Reporting & Analysis - Supporting monthly close activities, preparing financial reports, and ensuring accurate forecasting and budgeting.? Business Partnering - Working closely with the Operations Director and Senior Leadership Team to provide financial insights that drive strategic decision-making.? Cost & Inventory Control - Ensuring accurate material usage and inventory management, conducting cost analysis, and identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.? Capital & Budget Planning - Supporting capital expenditure requests, preparing financial justifications, and overseeing annual budget processes.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • Proven experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel and financial systems; knowledge of D365, Oracle, and Power BI is beneficial.
  • CIMA qualification (or working towards it) is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving mindset, and excellent communication abilities.
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach with a drive for continuous improvement.
