Design Engineer

Elevation Recruitent are working exclusively with a specialist manufacturing business, bases South-East of Sheffield to help them recruit a Design Engineer.The company is committed to innovation and excellence in machinery design and manufacturing. This role plays a key part in the development of advanced machinery solutions within their engineering division.

Job Purpose

The Design Engineer will support the development of tooling, machinery, and design improvements as part of continuous engineering excellence initiatives. This role is responsible for the design, build, testing, and installation of new machinery and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Machinery Design: Develop innovative machinery and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

  • Innovation & Technology Integration: Research and implement new technologies, materials, and processes to enhance machinery design.

  • Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the build and testing phases, ensuring prototypes and final products meet performance criteria.

  • Design for Manufacture (DFM): Optimize designs for efficient production, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacturing.

  • Design for Maintenance (DFM): Ensure ease of servicing, repair, and longevity in all design considerations.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams for successful project execution.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Create detailed CAD models, technical drawings, and specifications while ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company policies.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing design processes, product quality, and operational efficiency.

  • Supplier & Risk Management: Engage with external suppliers for part sourcing, machinery build, and testing, ensuring timely delivery. Conduct risk assessments in accordance with industry safety regulations.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Provide internal training and documentation to strengthen the company’s knowledge base.

  • Global Support: Travel to company sites to support standardization efforts and provide technical assistance.

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes
  • Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in machinery design and development.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other design tools.

  • Expertise: Strong knowledge of DFM, materials science, and manufacturing processes.

  • Problem-Solving: Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple projects.
