Their aim is to promote the inclusion of all learners ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to become as independent as possible.Functional literacy and numeracy are essential life skills for all our learners and we have an explicit expectation that all staff in learner facing roles will actively promote these skills.Your new roleLearner Support Workers work under specific supervision and guidance from the Education and Therapy teams, to support the teaching and learning activities of learners both in the College and/or School and out in the community. The role of the Learner Support Worker is important in ensuring that the school and College meet the educational, social, emotional and physical needs of all Learners. Schools aim to work on a team approach with a strategic behavioural management policy.As a Learning Support worker you will need to; support with physical interventions when necessary to ensure the safety of Learners and other staff, observing, monitoring and supporting learners in order to support their attendance, track the progress of individual learners and report progress to the tutor, Assistant Director of Learning/Director of Integrated Services and parents at review meetings.What you'll need to succeedYou will need a positive attitude and a passion for supporting learners to achieve the desired results. You will be resilient and aim to reinforce behaviour through a positive manner. It is essential that you have previous and recent classroom based experience. You will have a thorough understanding of the British National Curriculum and child development which you are able to implement in a classroom setting.You will be a flexible individual, who is able to successfully manage challenging behaviour. You will be familiar with ILPs and target setting.
