Job Description:
As a Commodity Buyer, you will play a critical role in supporting the division in purchasing activities to meet company goals related to cost, quality, innovation, and delivery. The Commodity Buyer is responsible for managing supplier relationships, developing commodity strategies, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role also involves handling cost control and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. You will lead supplier negotiations and ensure best-in-class commercial terms as a Commodity Buyer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain commodity strategies that align with business goals.
  • As the Commodity Buyer, you will select suppliers and manage customer-nominated supplier agreements.
  • Oversee engineering changes for supplied components and materials.
  • Handle SAP functions related to suppliers and commodities.
  • Manage supply base to ensure cost savings and sustainability as a Commodity Buyer.

Safety & Environmental Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Maintain adherence to IATF 16949, COSHH, and manual handling assessments.

Quality Responsibilities:

  • Participate in quality checks and liaise with departments on quality concerns.
  • As the Commodity Buyer, you will be responsible for raising quality care points and managing repeat quality issues.

Cost Management:

  • Contribute to cost-saving initiatives and participate in Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP).

Motivation:

  • As a Commodity Buyer, you will support team spirit and participate in development programs.

Skills & Experience:

  • CIPS membership or relevant business qualification (desirable).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in engineering/manufacturing purchasing, including APQP, PPAP, and cost analysis.
  • Proficiency in cost improvement techniques and new product launches.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Highly numerate with strong Excel skills.
  • Able to work independently or in a team.
  • Flexibility to travel across the UK and EU (valid driving license and passport required).
