Family Involvement and Information Officer (Disabled Children and Young People)

Are you passionate about improving the lives of families with disabled children and young people? Do you have experience providing guidance and support to families with complex health needs? We are looking for a highly motivated Family Involvement and Information Officer to join our team and help lead the development of an information, advice, and guidance service for families and carers of disabled children and young people.

About the Role: As the Family Involvement and Information Officer, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of an accessible and user-focused information service for families with disabled children and young people. You will work closely with a variety of agencies, ensuring families have the resources and support they need at every stage of their journey.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the development and implementation of a multi-agency Information Strategy tailored to the needs of families with disabled children and young people.
  • Providing professional advice and guidance to families, carers, and professionals, ensuring information is clear, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Managing and maintaining a local offer database for families, ensuring content is regularly updated and feedback is incorporated.
  • Producing and distributing newsletters and information materials, ensuring that families and young people are actively involved in the process.
  • Coordinating outreach initiatives and delivering information in places accessed by families, particularly at points of diagnosis and beyond.
  • Maintaining and promoting the Disabled Childrens Register to ensure that as many families as possible receive relevant information.
  • Researching and updating information on local, national, and neighbouring services available for families.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to build and strengthen relationships and networks.
  • Contributing to the development of strategies, policies, and plans that improve services for families of children with disabilities.
  • Working with the communications team to create effective publicity materials and implement a communications strategy for the service.
  • Organising an annual event for families to exchange information, share best practices, and gather feedback from service users.
About You: We are looking for a candidate who is committed to supporting families with disabled children and young people and is passionate about providing high-quality, accessible information. The successful candidate will have:
  • Level 4 qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
  • Significant experience providing advice, guidance, and support to families with disabled children and young people.
  • Experience working within a multi-agency environment and building strong, effective relationships across different sectors.
  • Proficiency in IT and communication systems and experience in producing reports, information leaflets, and guidance materials.
  • A strong knowledge of local and national strategies, policies, and legislation relating to disability services for children and young people.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively under pressure, while maintaining a high standard of work.
