Introduction:
We are delighted to be partnering with the Furness Building Society to recruit a new senior role to their Finance team, a Head of Financial Planning & Analysis. The Furness are a modern Building Society with roots in its heartland in the North West, but with a growing national presence due to its digitisation strategy, including a recent new savings app launched in 2024.
They entered 2025 in a strong position, with levels of capital substantially above their regulatory requirements, low levels of arrears and a high level of liquidity compared to their needs. They hold a diverse range of liquid assets having been granted permission to operate under the extended approach to treasury risk management and this role furthers their capability in prudent but ambitious financial management.
The main purpose of this role is to lead the Society’s financial planning function, producing analysis and insight such that decision makers can take informed decisions with a full appreciation of the associated benefits and risks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the design & development of financial strategy, annual budget and strategic plans, generating insight into performance to enable Executive decision making.
- Lead the business from static planning towards rate sensitive and dynamic planning processes to allow for effective planning, pricing and participation decisions.
- Lead the development and implementation of effective decision support and cost / benefit assessment within the Society, including for key projects and commercial propositions.
- Support Product Pricing decisions by ensuring pricing models are robust and key assumptions are up to date.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships and provide cost insight and challenge to assist cost centre owners in meeting their cost budgets.
- Lead capital stress scenario modelling, including development of the modelling approach and ongoing calibration, supporting ad-hoc stress testing and decision support as well as key prudential document production, including the ICAAP.
- Lead, manage and support the development of the FP&A team ensuring skills, resources and culture are aligned to the delivery of the corporate plan objectives.
