Venn Group’s public sector legal team is working with a Local Authority, who are seeking an experienced Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their legal team on a locum basis. This role offers a fully remote working arrangement and requires an experienced lawyer who is confident in conducting their own advocacy.

Job Overview:

This role will focus on Adult Social Care (ASC) matters, including Court of Protection (COP) cases, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), Section 16-18 DoLS (Education), and roundtable discussions. The successful candidate must be comfortable handling their own advocacy, with hearings conducted remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload covering all aspects of Adult Social Care law
  • Handle Court of Protection (COP) matters, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and Section 16-18 DoLS (Education) cases
  • Represent the council in roundtable discussions and hearings
  • Conduct own advocacy, with all hearings held remotely
  • Provide clear and practical legal advice to social care teams, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or FILEx Legal Executive with experience in adult social care law
  • Strong knowledge of Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014, and Human Rights Act 1998
  • Experience in Court of Protection cases, DoLS, and education-related DoLS matters
  • Advocacy experience is essential – must be comfortable representing the council in hearings
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently in a fully remote role
