Venn Group’s public sector legal team is working with a London Borough Council, who are seeking an experienced Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their legal team on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a varied caseload in a supportive environment, with the flexibility of hybrid working.

Job Overview:

The successful candidate will handle a caseload of Adult Social Care matters, including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) applications, Court of Protection (COP) proceedings, Section 29 Mental Health Act applications, and Judicial Review proceedings. The role requires attendance in the office one day per week, with the remainder of the work conducted remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of Adult Social Care legal matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
  • Handle Court of Protection (COP) proceedings, including DoLS applications
  • Advise and represent the council on Section 29 Mental Health Act applications and Judicial Review proceedings
  • Provide legal advice to Adult Social Care teams on Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014, and related legislation
  • Draft legal documents, including court applications and case summaries
  • Attend court hearings as required, with some advocacy responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or FILEx Legal Executive with relevant experience in Adult Social Care law
  • Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014, and Mental Health Act 1983
  • Experience handling DoLS applications, Court of Protection matters, and Judicial Review proceedings
  • Ability to provide clear and practical legal advice to Adult Social Care teams
  • Availability to attend the office one day per week as part of the hybrid working arrangement
