Payroll Manager

Location - Sandwich, Kent

Salary - Up to £50,000 per annum DOE

Hours - 37.5 hrs per week, Monday - Friday

Permanent - Office based

Our client is a major supplier of contract staff within the civil engineering/tunneling industries, and they are looking for an ambitious and energetic Payroll Manager to join this well-established family-run business.

As the Payroll Manager, you will...

  • Oversee and manage payroll operations, addressing queries from team members and colleagues
  • Lead and manage the payroll team daily, including scheduling holidays, conducting appraisals, and facilitating one-to-one meetings. You will also set daily tasks and organise training sessions
  • Conduct bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with team members and report insights to management
  • Ensure the payroll team completes all necessary training on time
  • Manage processes related to new hires, departures, sick pay, holiday allowances, and more
  • Ensure payroll payments are prepared accurately and processed through SAGE and BACS
  • Attend and provide reports at bi-weekly team meetings, detailing the team's activities
  • Participate in and present at manager and quarterly meetings
  • Represent the payroll team in internal and external client meetings as needed
  • Prepare and submit all required reports, such as FPS & EPS, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Take joint responsibility for pension regulation duties and ensure that pension data letters are prepared weekly
  • Oversee all HMRC duties and submissions, ensuring compliance with changing tax laws and regulations
  • Serve as a payroll expert, providing guidance and support to other managers as required
  • Ensure all calls and inquiries are addressed promptly and effectively
  • Perform general office duties as necessary
  • Comply with company quality processes and procedures

Skills and Experience required for the role of Payroll Manager:

  • Proven experience in supervising a payroll team
  • Proficiency in using Sage 50 software
  • Experience in processing large payrolls with accuracy
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of in-house payroll experience
